Hítará is located in the West of Iceland. Hítará is a medium sized river with a long fishing tradition.

There are 4 to 6 rods on the Hítará, depending on the season.

The Lodge

The Hítará lodge has a unique atmosphere with a stunning view over the river from the sitting room. It houses a famous collection of mounted wildfowl. The food and service is very good. At the beginning and at the end of the season the lodge is self-catering.


The Fishing & Tackle

Hítará is fly only. All salmon over 69 cm is released.

Average total catch for the last 5 years (2008-2012) is 822 salmon per year.

Recommended tackle is single-handed rods, 7 to 8 wt., 9 to 10 ft.
